Finances
- Understanding Money is a government website on all things money. It has online budget calculators, savings and loan calculators.
- Fido is the site of Australian Securities & Investments Commission. It has calculators and tips, and you can even check to see if you have any unclaimed money floating about the place!!
- Moneyminded has all you need to know to fine tune your financial skills. It has tools, calculators, games and news on all things money.
- Simple Savings is a website dedicated to saving money. Tips on living cheaply, saving money, budgeting, and shopping wisely can be found in the form of weekly newsletters, tipsheets, downloads and calculators. Part of the website is free and full membership gives you extra information.
Tenancy Information
- Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) has downloadable forms and a one-stop shop to the Residential Tenancies Act 1994 and Residential Services (Accommodation) Act 2002.
- Tenants’ Union of Queensland focuses on your rights as a tenant and has loads of information to help you when things go pear-shaped.
Choosing a flat mate
- University of Massachusetts Amherst has a checklist of what questions to ask and think about when choosing a flatmate.
- Flat With Me is an online flatmate directory, but most importantly, it has valuable information on flatmate search. It even has calculators for bonds & budgeting, specific to the share house experience.
Working out Conflict
- Dispute Resolution Centre for information about the Centre including locations.
- Department of Justice & Attorney-General - for tips from the Dispute Resolution Centre on how to manage with conflict.
- Conflict Resolution Strategies - for some tips on how to manage conflicts with roommates. This is from an American College website and contains some useful tips for managing conflict with people you live with.
Staying In, Running a share house
- The Share Housing Survival Guide has lots of information about establishing and maintaining a share house - the legal information though relates to New South Wales tenancy law so keep that in mind and check the legal information on Queensland sites.
- Everything you need for a happy share house situation can be found at www.mysharehouse.com.au
A FREE online register that provides a completely transparent bill and expense tracking and rostering system, so that each housemate knows exactly where they stand from both a financial and a housework point of view. Reminders are sent to each flatmate to pay bills or complete chores via email and SMS!!
