About the Share House Project

The QUT Share House Project commenced in February 2008 as a result of a grant by the RTA (Residential Tenancies Authority) which aimed to promoting better tenancy outcomes under the Residential Tenancies Act (1994) by minimising share house conflict.

The Share House Project really began as a result of our Welfare Officers in the Counselling Service noticing that students were having some pretty horrible experiences in their share houses and we wanted to do something about it!

We developed this website after holding a number of focus groups with students on all QUT campuses, to find out what students wanted and what advice they had for other students in the same situation. We also needed to find out what students needed to help them understand their rights and responsibilities as a tenant, as well as resolve conflict and maintain relationships in their houses. The students were utilised in every phase of the project to ensure that this resource meets their needs and is useful to them. If you have any suggestions, questions or enquiries please feel free to contact us at QUT Counselling Services.
