How do I apply for a position at the University?

You can apply for a specific position at the University in the Job Vacancies section, select the position you are interested in and click on the Start New Application link.

Can I leave my details if there is no current vacancy that I am interested in?

You can sign up to Job Alert and leave your details. You will receive an email alerting you to vacancies that contain keywords that match the requirements you specified when you signed up. You can also join our talent pool.

Can I approach directly a specific area of the University with positions relevant to my area of expertise to discuss the possibility of any upcoming vacancies or to provide my resume for future reference?

You can but it is recommended that you sign up to Job Alert or register your interest to work at the University by uploading your CV to out talent pool.

How do I find out more about a job advertised online or in the paper?

The position description is available online at our Job Vacancies section, which will provide more detail about the responsibilities of the role, the working environment and how to apply for the position. The position description also includes a contact person who you can email or contact with specific enquiries.

How often are new vacancies posted on the University website?

New vacancies are posted as they become vacant so setting up a Job Alert is the most efficient way to hear of new vacancies.

What can I do if I am interested in short-term work at the University?

Register your interest to work at the University by joining our talent pool. When short-term vacancies occur that meet your skills and capabilities, you may be contacted by email.

What if I no longer wish to receive Job Alerts from QUT?

Once you have registered, you can login to Job Alert and change or remove your job alerts.

How long will I have to prepare my application?

This varies depending on the position. The closing date is posted on the website.

Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

You may apply for numerous jobs concurrently.

How can I see which jobs I have applied for?

By selecting My History, you can see any jobs for which you have applied. You must be logged in to view My History.

Do I need an email address?

Your email address is our primary method of contact with you, so please check your emails regularly.

How will I know whether my application has been successful?

Once the vacancy closes, a selection panel will meet to determine a suitable shortlist of applicants who will be interviewed. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified as soon as possible after a decision is made.

Once I commence an application for a position, do I have to complete it in one sitting?

No, it is possible to complete your application in stages. Just remember to hit "Save" before exiting, and remember your user name and password when you wish to log on again to complete your application before the closing date.

Will I receive a response to my application?

Yes, you will receive an automated email response acknowledging receipt of your application. If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be contacted. Keep checking My History for progress of your application. If you are unsuccessful you will be notified by email.

Will the University contact referees?

Reference checking is an important part of our selection process. It allows the panel to confirm information you have provided that is relevant to the skills and capabilities required for the position being recruited..

If successful, which campus will I be working at?

The position description normally states where the position is located, but all University appointments are to the University not specifically to a campus and staff may be required to work across different campuses.

I have changed my contact details since I submitted my application. How do I provide my new contact details?

To update your contact details for a specific application already submitted, select My History and View Application Summary.

I uploaded my CV to the Talent Pool some time ago and would like now to provide an updated CV and details should there be any suitable opportunities. How do I do this?

To update your CV for the Talent Pool, select the My History menu and select Edit Application for the Upload my CV to the Talent Pool listing. Your latest CV will be displayed and to replace the file just browse for the current CV and press Save and Continue.

I have changed my email address so my log in details are no longer correct and I would also like to receive any email correspondence to my new address. What should I do?

To change your log in details and update your email address, log in using your old email address. Select My History and then select Edit Registration Details. You can update your email address here. The next time you log in you will need to use your new email address and old password to access your profile.

I haven’t been receiving email notifications to confirm receipt of my application etc. What should I do?

If you aren’t receiving emails from QUT it is recommended that you check your email junk folder and put qut@nga.net.au on the safe list. If you still aren’t receiving email notifications log into your candidate profile and check whether your email address is correctly recorded. To do this, select My History and then select Edit Registration Details. Update the email address if required. You can also view emails that have been sent from QUT to your email address through the View Emails menu. If you are still experiencing difficulties in receiving emails, please contact the HR Department for further assistance.

I have submitted my application for an advertised position but now would like to withdraw it from consideration. How do I withdraw my application?

To withdraw your application, log into your candidate profile and select My History. From the My History menu, select View Application Summary and select Withdraw Application. Once you have withdrawn your application you will receive an email response confirming withdrawal of your application. If you wanted to resubmit your application for this position after withdrawing it and before the closing date, please contact the HR Department.

I previously applied for a position at QUT and am now applying for a newly advertised position. My old resume is already uploaded to my application for the new position. How do I replace it with my new resume?

To upload your new resume use the browse function to locate the correct file and press Save and Continue. This will replace the existing resume.

I’ve uploaded my CV and joined the Talent Pool. Does this mean I will be considered for all vacancies that match my interests?

QUT accesses the Talent Pool to locate candidates suitable for short-term opportunities across the University as the need arises.

By joining our talent pool you will not automatically be considered for advertised vacancies. If you wish to be considered for an advertised vacancy, please ensure you complete the application form and submit your application for the relevant vacancy via the website.
